Job Description

Summary

Maintains kitchen work areas and restaurant equipment and utensils in clean and orderly condition by performing the following duties below.

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Includes the following and other duties may be assigned. Scrapes food from dirty dishes and washes them by hand or places them in racks or on conveyor to dishwashing machine. Holds inverted glasses over revolving brushes to clean inside surfaces. Washes pots, pans, and trays. Sweeps and mops kitchen floors. Washes worktables, walls, refrigerators, and meat blocks.  Segregates and removes trash and garbage and places it in designated containers. Steam cleans or hoses out garbage cans. Polishes silver using burnishing machine tumbler, chemical dip, buffing wheel, and hand cloth. Transfers supplies and equipment between storage and work areas. Informs supervisor of inventory shortages. Sets up banquet tables. Washes and peels vegetables. Loads or unloads trucks picking up or delivering supplies and food. Attends scheduled mandatory staff meetings.

Education and/or Experience                   

High school diploma or general education degree (GED); or three to six months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

 

Language Skills                   

Ability to speak and read the English language a limited number of two- and three-syllable words and to recognize similarities and differences between words and between series of numbers.  Ability to print and speak simple sentences.

 

Reasoning Ability                   

Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out simple one- or two-step instructions.  Ability to deal with standardized situations with only occasional or no variables.
